Asteroids was released in 1979 by Atari and had a major influence on games to come. You control a spaceship in an asteroid field that is inhabited by occasional flying sucers. Shoot as many asteroids as possible while not getting hit by any of the floating rocks or being shot down by the UFO’s. Asteroids is Atari’s best selling game of all time and is a cult classic. The original Asteroids game used only 6 KB of ROM code and another 2KB for the graphics. That shows you great gameplay can be had at a very small price.
